I received an ARC version of this book for an honest review. Wow. Just wow! I don't know how she managed it, but volume 2, Shivers and Sins is actually better than the first book! I freaking cried over Vaughn of all people!! Vaughn!! It's ridiculous how she got me to care for that douche but she did it!! Man!! If you do nothing else this month, just read this dang book! It is so worth it, I can't adequately put it into words!! You will not regret getting lost in this book, the twists and turns you take as you journey with Jesse and the gang is unbelievable. And of course, you're left with more questions and never wanting to leave their world. LAWD JESUS now I gotta wait for the third installment, idk how I'm gonna manage!! I can't stress enough how amazing this book was and completely worth the wait!! Buy it, read it, love it!! Kaia Bennett done it again and thank god for that!!Product details

Now here is a story that you are likely not going forget. Not an easy comforting read. Unnaturally harsh and unpredictable as the beast she writes about. Twisted romance that leaves you wanting closure. First time reader of Kaia Bennett and I have to admit her story kept me reading. I do however need closure . Not a fan of to be continued, so if this is her style for all her books I will pass. This story is unlike anything I ever read. I will however finish volume 3 when completed but that will be it. Tried to subscribe to her subscriptions of new releases but it didn't work.
This is my first review in awhile and my first 5 star review in a minute but I have to give it up to Miss Bennett. These books are The Bomb,truly. They capture you and make you use your imagination,take on a trip through the underworld that's so vivid and real. Make weep and hope with the characters,as well as making you feel what they feel at the same time. The animalistic eroticism is off the charts. Then change and the characters from aloofness to all out being family is tangible. I don't even mind waiting for the finale book this series has been so good. Buy every book in this series of you like supernatural adventure and eroticism,it's an amazing read...
This has to be one of the best follow up books in a series I've ever read. I deemed the first book more a horror story than a romance, in this volume the romance punches through all the bloody gore. The characters are so well developed and their complexities so stark. The making of such a rag-tag coven is a surprise and brilliant. Don't get me wrong, this stuff pushes boundaries and is frequently hard to read. I have to be in the mood but can't wait for the next book. Well done.
The second volume literally rocked my socks off. Unlike its predecessor it didn't feel muted or wrapped up in Evie's never ending cycle of guilt, betrayal & pain. Now we get to explore a world that she was bound to by blood in more ways than one.
When Jesse Oldman first popped to life in this book, his descent into the bowels of the white and red basement reflected the beginnings of a new life. One that is written in his blood one which is later revealed by a witch. I also believe it is when he is truly reborn.
As the book progresses I slowly begin to empathize with Jesse. In a screwed up way I could almost forgive his sadistic and masochistic nature. I even started to understand his disdain for human food. But nothing prepared me for the demons that plagued him.
We learn real depth about the characters through Jesse's POV. Unlike Evie who must rely on her powers of influence, he shows us through his memories. Especially with his vampire brother, Vaughn. The only one which he colors his perception on is the wolfman, Joshua Stark. That there is powered by jealousy; a foreign concept for the vampire.
This dark romance is definitely not for the faint hearted. Hell it challenged my concept of roughing it. But through the blood and gore and vile filth, I caught convoluted glimpses of hope.
Will Jesse and Evie ever experience a HEA? I hope so. I'm just not completely optimistic that it will end with a white picket fence. Unless there's a splattering of blood. And a baying wolf playing fetch with a psychotic vampire. And an Alpha hybrid couple cooing at a gently swathed harbinger of doom.
Shivers and Sins, baby, the hottest, twisted dark/PNR/romance I've read this year.
Oh so sexy, bloody, gory and romantic. Jesse and Evie trying to fight their bond while falling deeply in love. They learn about the distant past and how intricately it is connected to the present time, hide from Jesse's brutal father, endure torture, attempt to break their bond and finally admit to their feelings for each other. Sweaty, sexy, dirty and unforgettable. Against my wildest expectations I saw the redemption of Jesse and Vougn, the way they made a small family with Evie and Stark, the hard battles they fought to go against their violent nature. Magic, hot, hot sex, killings, more scorching sex, lots of blood and somehow, among all brutality there was love and selfish, cruel Jesse was willing to sacrifice his body, his sanity and his life for Evie. I can’t wait for the next installment! BRAVO!!!!
I have read all previous works by Ms. Bennett and her journey into another genre has been nothing short of fantastic. This is an excellent follow-up to Die By the Drop. Readers should be aware that Ms. Bennett remains true to these fascinating characters that are intensely dark, sometimes stomach churning and highly erotic so read at your own risk. Ms. Bennett has fully committed to writing a tale that is so rich and engaging that at times readers may need a moment to digest the action, pause to fully accept her words or speed read to absorb her diabolical creations that are Evie and Jessie. There are many stunning surprises throughout this story and Ms. Bennett wraps book two up with some revelations and high anticipation of things to come in the final installment. This offering by Kaia Bennett is highly recommended and definitely worth keeping in the to be read again pile.
